The Council of Immigration Judges (CIJ) is a voluntary organization of United Kingdom Immigration Judges, founded in 1997.
Our mission is to promote independence and enhance the professionalism, dignity and efficiency of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal.
We work to improve the Immigration Tribunal system and protect the interests of our members, collectively and individually.
We seek to promote discussion between all our members and promote and represent their general interests including their terms and conditions of service with the senior judiciary and the Ministry of Justice.
We are also a recognised representative of Immigration Judges for the purpose of making representations to the Senior Salaries Review Body.
We also have a role in considering existing and proposed legislation and rules relating to immigration and asylum matters and make recommendations upon them.
Membership of the Council is open to anyone who holds office as a salaried or fee paid Immigration Judge, Upper Tribunal or Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge, Designated Immigration Judge or Senior Immigration Judge. Membership is also open to retired Judges.
